Meimeihyaku offers Japanese flower arrangement classes in a 100 year old Machiya (a Kyoto-style townhouse). The classes follow the Ohara school of Ikebana.
Trial lessons are available. For available dates, please refer to the calendar below.
For foreign visitors interested in this Japanese cultural experience, we recommend a private lesson followed by Japanese tea ceremony. Please feel free to contact us.
Welcome to Meimeihyaku.
Our classes will follow the Ohara school’s traditional style of Ikebana, but within each session there will be an opportunity to experience unique flower arranging, and time to let your own feelings flow into your work.
Let's practice Ikebana.
The Ohara school of Ikebana, which was founded in 1912, currently has 146 chapters in Japan and 64 chapters (study groups) overseas.
The school teaches a variety of flower arrangement forms, but one of the most important styles is ‘realistic landscape arrangement’, which emphasizes the natural look of plants and the recreation of natural environments, with a focus on seasonality.
By practicing Ikebana, you can immerse yourself in nature, and enjoy the traditions handed down by this unique part of Japanese culture.
I find that daily flower arranging revitalizes me. Ikebana helps to concentrate the mind and allows the body to de-stress.
I look forward to having you in my class.
